“He epitomizes the term professional driver. Recently one of his passengers, a woman named Lindsey, got an alert that her burglar alarm had gone off. When Lindsey and the driver arrived at the house, the police were already there. But when the police saw the door was locked, they determined there was no threat and left quickly. This driver wasn’t as ready to abandon Lindsey. He physically walked around the perimeter of the house with Lindsey to see if everything was okay. And he would not leave until he was absolutely sure her home was absolutely secure. He literally put his own safety on the line to help someone he could have easily left behind. It is safe to say that this nominee is more than just a great driver, he is also the definition of a true gentleman.”
“She walked up fifteen flights of stairs to deliver food from our restaurant to a sick child because the hotel’s elevators were full. In addition to being someone who is obviously willing to go above and beyond the call of duty, her manager calls her a natural leader whose work ethic is contagious.”
“He one of the engines that drives the popular tours at a local attraction. And if knowledge is power, this individual could light up a room. He was one of the first individuals to earn the position of master presenter at our tour facility. And according to his co-workers, he has great knowledge of other attractions in the surrounding area – which he regularly shares with visitors. Despite his obviously high level of expertise, he still takes the time to improve his presentation skills. In fact, while recovering from cancer surgery this past winter, he not only kept in touch with his co-workers, he requested the latest training materials from the tour to study. And if that’s not dedication enough, he also used part of his recovery time to write an article for his department’s newsletter. Thankfully he returned from surgery without missing a beat.”
“He works a full-time (50 hours per week) job as an accounts receivable coordinator. Yet somehow he still found time to give more than 125 hours of volunteer service to our organization. This individual has volunteered at more events that we can name – Super Bowl XL, Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, Target Fireworks, Motown Winter Blast, Special Olympics and the River Days Festival. But it’s not just the amount of time this individual gives to volunteering but the fact that he puts his heart and soul into every event he works. During the 2008 Winter Blast, he volunteered all three days from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. each and every day of the event in the bitter cold. While there he trained and supervised a team of 20 volunteers and never missed an opportunity to make sure his team had refreshments and hot coffee. I should also mention that he also helped with event setup and driving supplies to the Winter Blast commend center each day. Even on his vacation time he is thinking of others. Earlier this year, this individual took a week of his own vacation time to volunteer as a counselor at Camp Mak-A-Dream in Gold Creek, Montana. This camp helps children and young adults stricken with cancer. As one of the camp managers said: “He is a fantastic human being and one of the most committed people I have ever seen helping children.”
